My First Convention
Is this your first convention, or time attending Tokyo in Tulsa? Please take a few moments to let us clear up some common questions, misconceptions and help you have the best Tokyo in Tulsa possible!
- While cosplay (anime-centric costuming) is a big part of our event – you do not need to come dressed up! While we have some great works of art walking around, never feel pressured; it’s simply something many of us enjoy! Plenty of people will be walking around in everyday attire!
- Tokyo in Tulsa will not be like any convention you’ve ever ran into. We have been compared to a smaller “Dragon Con”; a cooler “than this or that” anime convention, etc. With thousands showing up, and hundreds of hours worth of entertainment packed into a 3-day weekend, don’t let a previous experience at other conventions or event fool you – this is not your local mini event and we are growing every year!
Give us a try. Come out Friday and purchase a Day Pass. If you enjoy yourself you can upgrade to a Weekend Membership by paying the difference!
- Did you pre-register so you would save money on your membership? Great! Show up to the event during our hours of operation for Registration – and pick up your badge and special pre-reg gift bag!!
- Take time to surf through the “Community” or forums. From fascinating conversation to discussions on things you might want to know yourself? It’s always a source of info and interaction for our members!
Is this your first time at a convention or multi-day event? Here is a short check list to make sure that you have a good time.
- Have your ID ready and keep it with you at all times. A photo ID is required to register for Tokyo in Tulsa or to claim a pre-registration. It is also just a good idea to have with you in case of an emergency.
- Wear your badge at all times and wear it in a prominent location. This is your access into Tokyo in Tulsa events.
- If you are staying at the DoubleTree Downtown, be sure to reserve your rooms in advance. We can not guarantee that rooms will be available during the duration of the convention or how much they will cost. Registering for for your rooms, even a few days in advance, will ensure that you have a room and that you are able to receive the convention discount.
- Stop by an ATM before coming to Tokyo in Tulsa. We do have several on-site ATMs available for attendees but they are notorious for running out of money multiple times over the course of the weekend. Although some of our vendors will take Credit and Debit cards, not all of them will. Also, due to the high expense of credit card machines and their fees, the registration desk is Cash Only.
- Take the time to look over our Restaurant Guide and Parking Guide before traveling. Both parking and restaurants are abundant in downtown Tulsa … if you know where to look.
- BRING YOUR CAMERA! Photography is a major part of Tokyo in Tulsa and there are a lot of photo opportunities.
- Bring your friends … Tokyo in Tulsa is best experienced in a group.
Come back often! We will be updating this list in the weeks leading up to Tokyo in Tulsa. See you in July!
