Main Cosplay Contest Rules
MAiN COSPLAY CONTEST
1. Eligibility: Anyone ages six (6) and up may enter in the [MAIN COSPLAY] event. Entrants ages six to thirteen (6-13) must have their parents’ permission to enroll, and they MUST be accompanied by a legal guardian or relative of age. Children below the age of six (6) CANNOT enter cosplay on their own, but they can be considered a “prop” in a performance.
2. Costume Guidelines:
* No costume is NO COSTUME. If the outfit can be mistaken for every day wear (L from Death Note and Brock from Pokemon, for example), it cannot be entered into the contest alone. However, it can be entered with a group.
* Costumes must cover at least as much area as a bikini–NO EXCEPTIONS. This is a family friendly event. Thongs are not allowed unless covered by skirts/shorts or capes.
* If you did not make your costume, you will not be able to be judged for the contest. You can enter as a walk-on, but you will have no chance of winning any of the prizes for the contest.
*Store-bought costumes may be entered as part of a cosplay group, but again, they will not be judged. The group will be judged solely on those who have crafted their outfits. If a group containing a store-bought costume wins the [HALL COSPLAY] contest, so be it; they won because of the judges’ decisions based upon the crafted and created parts of their group’s outfits.
* If you have made heavy alterations to a store-bought garment and wish to enter it into the contest, you must be able to explain how you have altered it and the processes that such an endeavor entailed. This is information we want to know, anyway, but if you are up front and honest about not starting from scratch, we will be more inclined to believe your accomplishments. Great cosplays do not necessarily require a “from scratch” creation. We are aware of this.
3. Reference material is required in order to judge fairly. Please bring a clear photo (or several clear photos) of your character for the judges to compare to your cosplay. Again, I repeat: please bring reference material that you would be willing to part with; there is not guarantee we can give it back to you.
4. Groups with skits may only have six (6) people on stage at one time as a safety precaution. More people may be entered as part of the group skit, but only six (6) are allowed on stage at one time. Group walk-ons, where the group simply poses for a picture, may have the entire group on stage, if it is within reasonable size. This rule is subject to change due to venue restrictions.
5. Walk-ons will be given thirty (30) seconds to one (1) minute to show off all of the hard work they put into their costumes.
6. Each entrant in the [MAIN COSPLAY] contest will be required to give their signature on their entry form to verify that they have read the rules and will adhere to them on pain of expulsion from the contest.
7. There will be plenty of prizes this year. Be sure to enter the correct one on the form contestants should turn in during pre-judging! ![]()
*Please note that these rules are subject to change at any time before Tokyo in Tulsa 2011.
