How do you choose/buy/make your cosplays?
(1/1)
quiltedninja:
I personally build all of my cosplays, if I can, from scratch, largely because I love the challenge of creating a difficult outfit from nothing more than screen caps, artist extras, and ingenuity is pretty dang cool.
I do, however, when I have the chance, alter clothing to fit the character I'm cosplaying. Take, for instance, my Tifa. Rather than the leather miniskirt and white tank top everyone knows (I do have those), I'm using my actual wedding dress as her ballgown. The dress itself still needs altering anyway, since it was made for a pear-shape, and I'm an hourglass, so once the bodice is fixed, it'll work wonderfully for my big day and hers!
How about you?
benihime:
hmmm I think it depends on the cosplay and what i'm doing it for.
If it's just for a group cosplay/not a competition sometimes i'll end up buying quite a bit of it - especially if it's a shirt that i can alter.
However, if it's my competition piece, I usually end up making everything.

I'm getting mine off of e-bay in parts.
Like, buying the shirt, gloves, hat and etc. other things separately.
Oddly, it's cheaper that way.
quiltedninja:
Yeah, I've been a thrift store shopper for years, mostly because it's all we have around here. Ebay sometimes, mostly for wigs, and I stalk our local artisans for cheap mess-ups that they can't sell at faire.
Jinxx-chan97:
i sew most of it or buy similar parts at a thrift store
