Seeking Help From You Experts
« on: April 21, 2012, 12:50:41 AM »
Okay so my daughter age 11 wants a bjd very badly.  She is very careful with her things so its not that I dont trust her, but from what I know about them, which is not a lot, it seems like 11 is a bit young?  Or is there something someone could suggest to start her off on?

Hmmm... I would say that it's a bit young, but if she'll take care of it, I don't see an issue. :)

The dolls themselves are anatomically correct (but not all of them!) and there's a huge variety. Depending on what she wants or is looking at, there are some good companies for dolls that are on the low end of prices, like under $200. I mean, they're not like Barbies, they have wigs and eyes and elastic and what not...

Also, there is a doll group in tulsa that meets once a month. Here's a link to the facebook with the info if you'd like to bring her by and look or just hit us up at TNT, we have a whole track of BJD programing and fun and there will be a HUGE variety of dolls. The BJD programing this year will be a joint effort between Tulsa and the Oklahoma City groups and we'll have more info soon.

Hope that helps a little. :)
It's time for the crazy fool who missed the show to quietly leave the room now.

You could start her off with a vinyl BJD which is MUCH cheaper than a resin one. They are still customizable and just as fun but not as fancy as some of the resin ones. Both have their pro's and cons but it is really up to you/your daughter(who ever is buying it) based on your budget and preference.

And yes attend the BJD tulsa meetings. :)

I would also recommend checking out the Pullip family of dolls!

http://pullipstyle.com/pullipstyle/

They are smaller, about 12 inches 1/3 scale), and run about $80+. There are several different personas starting with the main girl, Pullip, and main boy 'Taeyang.'

There is also a smaller version, about 4.5 inchers, of Pullip known as  'Little Pullip' that runs about $25+. They are less articulated, but are just as customizable!
