What I would like to hear

Not so much as I forget these things, it's just not something that was really popular or took hold. It's not been a real fixture. That comment wasn't so much as wanting a Japanese band, as it was for JRock having a foot hold in the con in general. There is generally no love for such things, or it's a niche, however it is getting there.

Sorcha:
Again, I don't know how you can say that J-Rock hasn't had a foothold at the convention.  The first two years we had an entire room dedicated to J-Rock, you know that you ran the room.  Last year we didn't have a room but that was because I couldn't find anyone to run a room, so I asked for panels.  I rook any panel over J-Rock that was submitted last year.  I will say we didn't have much of a showing last year but I didn't have very many panels submitted over J-Rock.  I can't produce panels without panelist.

I will say that this year we have had many more panels submitted that deal with J-Rock.  This makes the convention committee very happy because we like to have a large range of panel types.

I am one of the ones that has submitted a panel this year in regards to Jrock. Please PLEASE let me know if you need any help with something touching this topic. I'm running an artist table as well, so anything with art, I'd love to help too. [I've submitted a panel about this as well <3] I'll try to help with what I can.

I am graduating/going to graduate school here in an art school in Savannah, and anytime I mention I'm from Oklahoma, people always tell me that the impression of Oklahoma is very hickish/ignorant. [which most of the time I will agree] Doing panels discussing culture, wether it be music or art about Japan, I think would really help go against this whole mindset other people around us. Not just that, but some people do not have access to some of the things that others may have. I just think that if it starts with one person, who knows who it could end with.

Sorry, I totally went on a rant. I guess the bottom line is, I would love to see this con be more than just Anime/Manga so that it can grow and can become a larger deal, so we can have the luxury of inviting big name artists/actors/musicians. We want to be in competition with our big Brother Texas when it comes to cons, right?

Hiya, I found this topic to be too interesting to continue to lurk.  ;)  I'm currently helping Cure Media in trying to find new(er) cons to help expand their bands' range across the US.  They are extremely interested in coming to the Midwest.  Currently, it would only be indie bands like DEPAIN, Lycaon and DEATHGAZE who are trying to gain an audience at home and abroad.  I know I personally would be thrilled to come see a band like ALSDEAD play (they were at Naka-Kon in KC and totally melted faces).  I've traveled long distances just to see a jrock band, Quaff in Memphis last year was a HUGE hit. (Unfortunately they have announced their disbandment)  I will be going to see D at A-Kon as well.

However, as a business owner (and con-organizer), I understand that budgeting something like this is extremely difficult, so I'd love to help host a panel if anyone is open to that idea.  Who knows, maybe I can get the Cure office to throw some swag my way to give out.  ^^

Sorcha:
If you are interested in doing a panel please fill out and submit the panel registration form.  You can find the link to the form in the panel thread.

As to Cure Media, I would love to talk to you more about that information please email me at mwest@tokyointulsa.com
