looks cool. what software do you use?
Photoshop and a wacom tablet. http://www.wacom.com/index2.phpI got my tablet at Best Buy like a year and a half ago for 60 dollars. I use the smallest size for portable use with my laptop. You really don't need a large one IMO. I never touched any larger size than 5 by 6. I got the one that just came with the tablet, pen, and installation software. Mine didn't come with the mouse. I don't really need it. Though it would be handy, its which ever you prefer. When you first start out using a tablet, it'll be a while till you get the hang of drawing with it. Its a really smooth surface, and looking at a screen instead of looking down at your paper takes some getting used to. I got photoshop via *cough*illegal*cough* download*cough*. I did it for art. If your just starting out in photoshop, I'd suggest doing a lot of random tutorials just so you learn to navigate photoshop. http://www.pixel2life.com/and deviantart. But using just pen and paper works wonders as well, lol. Sketch everywhere and anywhere you go. I currently went all digital with my comics and art cause I don't have a scanner any longer, but I still use my sketch book everyday. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. i got the wacom 8" (i think...) and it came with photoshop.... and the mouse lol. i think it was well worth the extra money considering it came with free photoshop and a art program. i absolutely love my tablet ^_^

Hey, did you get my reply to your personal message? I don't think it sent. Working my way out of this art block. I sketch out my idea. I searched for spiders cathedral castle punk girls for style of clothing goth girls for style of clothing. Also, I found a nice photo reference for how the girl is sitting. If you have trouble thinking of a cool pose or something. Just draw random poses of people and such that you find in magazines. You may find some "boring." poses, but try to think of how you can alter them into more intense pics by adding things. Use your head.

lol thats actually what i am doing on my horribly sad pic right now... suprisingly, when i showed it to my art teacher, she kinda teared up because of all the emotions. pretty much. it is when Takashi (my lead male character when i don't use Tatsuya) comes home and to his horror, he finds Rin (his wife, my main female) brutally killed by demons. in the background there is a very faded picture of them sitting, her resting her head on his shoulder and he, beaming with joy. they are so happy, but the main picture has him holding her bloody body in his arms, craddling her with tears running down his face...not sure why i don't just post the pic scetch on here lol.
pretty much, here is the story behind the picture i am working on.
As he entered the palace, a terrable feeling writhed in his heart. Something was wrong. Takashi raced through the corridors and finally came to the corridor that was only meant for the royal family...For he and Rin. As he raced down the corridor to their room, he couldn't help but see a weeping angel at the end of the hallway, waving goodbye to him. finally, he entered the room. He could feel the cold steel rip through his chest as his eyes flew over the horror he now saw. blood splattered on the white marble walls and columns. The furniture was toppled over in a manor that clearly said that the victim had struggled, wounded, as they tried to obscure the killer from getting to them. takashi's eyes took in the scene, the scent of blood filling his nostrils as he walked further into the room. His eyes glanced over at the bed, the sheets had been pulled off, blood as dark as wine running down the bed's head frame. He could tell, there was grievance waiting for him if he walked over to the scene. his feet however, led him there. He found himself running and when he reached the side of the bed where the sheets had been pulled, he froze, A loud scream startled him as he heard someone sobbing and crying. "RIN! NO RIN! WHO DID THIS?!? RIN! OH PLEASE! PLEASE COME BACK! RIN!" Takashi finally realized that the voice was his own, warm tears ran down his face as he looked down, his own tunic, now stained with his lover's blood. she was gone. murdered. He craddled her in his arms. not caring for the blood that was now seeping through his shirt. Takashi looked down and removed her blood soaked hair to see her bloodied face, her cold eyes, stairing back into his own, haunted... they seemed to tell him her last words before she was brutally killed. Why?

My mech panda would explode your panda. Thats a lot of story for a single painting. Good though, helps you capture the emotion, and a lot of artist try to tell a story with a single painting. Finished Mech-Spider for now. I didn't feel like adding the cathedral or anything just yet. I'm kinda bummed out at the moment.

Lol, pretty vague question I made Flake and Berb when I was in Webster highschool when I was like 17. A lot of times my characters are designed after people I know and things I've seen and a bit of randomness. These two are based off me and my older brother. Like many of my characters. I was drawing in class, as usual, and had a few people around me shooting ideas at me. I can't recall, but I drew the shroom first and someone asked me his name. All I could think of was my brothers nick name at the time which was "cornflakes." So I called him flake. It fit so well. Then I drew the turtle. He was based more of my brother than Flake. During that year of highschool, he didn't say a damn word all year. Literally! Some people thought he was mute. Anyhoo, I drew out the turtle to have a serious look. I asked what should his name be? Someone said Bob. I hate that name, its so over used as a random name choice. So I said Berb. Arnt I creative A lot of their cuteness developed over time. Just by me practicing and drawing everyday. Here is an old comic page I did 3 years ago. Flake and Berb were actually intended to be evil villains when I first made them, now they are the hero's. But to draw something cute. You just have to observe cute things. Think of cute things, and thing of simple shapes. Circles, Triangles, Squares. Cute is usually really simple structure. To design your own characters and have them be original is to just base them off of you, your friends, family and enemies. Then exaggerate their qualities, good or bad. Seriously, writers have a saying "write what you know." Artist also should "Draw what you know." Then keep expanding on what you know via research. It never ends. I don't know what exactly your asking for, but if your asking how did I come up with this comic page of them dancing then I'd say it was how I was feeling at the time. I was feeling blue, was listening to Michael Jackson, and drew them doing some dance moves. It cheered me up.

lol i was just wondering how you came up with a mushroom character and a turtle... its very unique (in a great way) i just love the originality of it. i have a lot of characters, all of which are based off of me and my friends... however, Rin and Tatsuya are based off of me. Rin came about sometime in the 5th grade. i just started drawing a little girl and it soon turned into a little angel around my age. soon, she started to develop into a reoccurring character and she soon became an original character. She is based off of my sarcastic and carefree self (put into the exteme, which results in her being silly and childish on the outside...but more serious and reserved on the inside... she is also very shy around newcomers which can make for her being very random. She is also very hot tempered. but i soon (well... 4 years ago lol) began drawing her with a cute little guinea pig and it soon became her pet. its name is wuschel and it was actually based off of my two guinea pigs nana and cookie... although nana passed away in august *sniff sniff* the name wuschel... just kinda came to me while i was drawing it and i plan to name my next guinea pig wuschel lol. Rin is also my height, standing tall at 5'1 1/2 lol. Rin also has ADHD like me... but above all, she loves earth balls lol. (huge beach balls that are 6 feet in height.)

Thanks Kite. Rin, thats how you do it. You have the basic concept. Your characters and such will develop over time as you develop. Inks Flats
