Ariel Lev is a fashion designer with twenty years of experience creating clothing with a couture philosophy. Each of his creations is one-of-a-kind, often composed of antique or re-purposed fabrics and embellishments. Particular sources of inspiration are historical clothing styles from around the world, as well as Industrial, Visual Kei and Black Metal band costuming, and the Harajuku street fashion scene.
Ariel began sewing in his teens, and honed his skills replicating the elaborate costumes of Japanese musicians he saw online. After doing this for some time, he was pleasantly surprised to learn about the emerging passion called cosplay, and that many people around the world were doing the same thing. He later joined a Malice Mizer cosplay group that performed at numerous conventions across Oklahoma and Texas.
Born and raised in Tulsa, Ariel has been a supporter of Tokyo in Tulsa from the very beginning. He cosplayed as Gackt at the first TnT block party. The next year he presented a fashion show with twenty-five looks, based on different contemporary Japanese fashion styles, at the first Tnt convention.
Ariel’s current passion is the application of technology, such as 3D printing, to fashion design. He works under the label Bizarre Couture, and examples of his work can be found under that name on Facebook and Instagram.
